3 Types Of Essential Telecommunications Systems

Telecommunications systems is a globally recognised term referring to using sources to transmit information electronically in the form of data, imagery, or voice. They are a collection of links and nodes that assist in enabling telecommunications, with common examples including your mobile device, VoIP networks, landlines and broadcast networks.

There are three primary types of telecommunication systems used, which we explain in this article.

Wide Area Networks

Wide Area Networks (WAN) is a private or public network that covers a significant location, such as an entire metropolitan or city. Large companies and organisations implement WAN to send and receive information with customers, suppliers and employees spread across multiple countries worldwide.

Data is transmitted digitally across communication mediums such as satellites and public phone networks, connected by routers. Users can easily send media, including images, videos and data, to anyone on this network, which is a valuable feature among teams of employees. Data security can be an issue, with several people able to access information from various devices. Therefore, consistent maintenance and upgrades are the priority, with supervised maintenance a must.

Local Area Networks

Local Area Networks (LAN) are private networks that connect various devices in a limited location. Users in office spaces or classrooms can easily connect using this network system from different devices in that area. Organisations benefit from this network as it enables communication among end-users in that facility.

They operate at a higher speed than WAN and promise a higher degree of security and make data sharing easier to manage. A user’s data is automatically saved on the hard disk of the computer’s server, making it a straightforward and cost-effective network solution for various institutes.

Metropolitan Area Network

Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN) are similar to LAN but on a broader scale, covering towns and cities of up to 50kms. It works to connect several LANs into one bigger supported network or single cable. This network is a highly efficient solution as it provides fast communication through carriers such as fibre optic cables. Moreover, the transfer rates of data are lower than LAN, but the system is not altogether secure from hackers and malware.

Nowadays, business exists on the internet and the telecommunications systems mentioned above are the most popular, essential networks for all Australian organisations. My-vCIO will help you find and implement the best telecommunications system for your particular needs. For more information, visit our website or contact us today.
